License to eat …

June 26th, 2010    Posted in running diet

Remember – running is not a license to kill and eat everything you see. Unless you’re on training schedule to win Comrades, you need to keep an eye on your diet or you will gain weight, in spite of the running you’re doing.

Have a great day.

Running is a group sport

June 24th, 2010    Posted in All posts, running motivation

Running with a target is easiest if you set yourself some targets to achieve. Get a list of local events and then choose races you can enter for your appropriate level. Choosing races to enter does two things – it helps you achieve your goals and it gives you a sense of achievement when you reach the goal. There are events from absolute beginner 5km walks to marathons. And the best things about races is the camaraderie between runners. Its not called Comrades for nothing.

A good source for local races is: http://www.runnersguide.co.za/Races/

Don’t run without aim

June 22nd, 2010    Posted in All posts, running motivation

There a few people who just run. They are, I assume, few and far between. Most of us have a reason for running. Whether its to attempt the Comrades or just to keep fit, but most, if not all of us need an aim or goal. Yes even if you’re just running to keep fit. The easiest way to set a goal is to chose your ultimate target. Set a date for that target and then work out a schedule to get there.

Happy goal setting

Running is about good balance

June 21st, 2010    Posted in All posts, running general

I am a passionate person. Some call me obsessive. To each their own. But I find unless I actually set a schedule, there is always someone that loses out on my time. Running, if planned well doesn’t have to steal time from your loved ones. Work out your running needs, get a calendar and then make time to run. You’ll find you have more time for your family too.

Good running gear

June 20th, 2010    Posted in All posts, running gear

Good Running gear is essential. It will help to avoid a myriad of problems. By the best gear you can afford. Like good running socks

And a thin layer of Loobit on the feet when you have new shoes will help you avoid those dreaded “new shoe blisters”

Two’s Company – Running Buddies

June 15th, 2010    Posted in All posts, running general

The hardest thing for me when running season starts is motivation. And the best way for me to stay motivated is through coercion. So that’s our next tip. Get a running buddy. It really helps with motivation and its great to share the experience with a friend. And in South Africa is safer too.

Have a smooth day. And happy training

Look great and you’ll want to run

June 14th, 2010    Posted in All posts, running motivation

Our first tip for running is a fashion tip. Seriously. Choose clothing that you feel you look good in. If you feel good, you are more likely to get out there and hit the tarmac. That does’t mean stove pipe jeans, of course! Pick clothing designed for the purpose, but there is such a wide range of running gear available from body hugging spandex to baggy tracksuits so choose something that suits you and makes you feel good.

Hope you enjoyed the tip.
